Clinical Will & Continuity of Care
Your wellbeing matters, even in unexpected circumstances
At Healing Talk Counselling, your emotional wellbeing, safety and the trust you place in me are at the heart of my practice.
As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I take my professional and ethical responsibilities seriously. This includes planning for unexpected circumstances that might prevent me from continuing our therapeutic work together.
For this reason, I have put a Clinical Will in place to ensure that my clients are informed, supported and treated with care and compassion should I become unexpectedly unavailable.

What is a Clinical Will?
A Clinical Will is a professional document that sets out arrangements to protect clients in the event that a counsellor becomes seriously unwell, incapacitated, unexpectedly unavailable or passes away.Just as we sometimes explore uncertainty, change and unexpected life events within therapy, I believe it is important to acknowledge that these possibilities can also affect therapists.
Having a Clinical Will is part of my commitment to responsible, ethical and compassionate practice.
Who Will Look After My Clients?
I have appointed Make Your Clinical Will ( https://makeyourclinicalwill.com/about/) , a professional clinical executor service, to oversee the necessary clinical communications and support should my Clinical Will need to be activated. This independent arrangement means that appropriate steps can be taken to communicate with clients sensitively and help them consider their next steps.
My Clinical Will includes arrangements for nominated individuals to contact the clinical executor should I become unable to manage my professional responsibilities.

What Would Happen to Your Counselling?
If I were unexpectedly unable to continue practising, my appointed clinical executor would:
-
Contact you sensitively and respectfully, using your recorded communication preferences where possible.
-
Explain the situation, providing appropriate information about the unexpected interruption or ending of our therapeutic relationship.
-
Offer a follow-up communication, should you wish to receive further information in writing.
-
Provide appropriate referrals or signposting, if you would like support in finding another counsellor or continuing your therapeutic journey.
-
Respect your individual needs and choices, recognising that every person may respond differently to an unexpected change.
You would remain free to decide whether you wished to continue counselling with another professional.
Your Privacy and Confidentiality
Your privacy and confidentiality remain important to me.
As part of my Clinical Will arrangements, my appointed clinical executor has access to relevant client contact and appointment information to enable appropriate communication should the Clinical Will be activated.
The purpose of these arrangements is to ensure that clients can be informed and offered appropriate support during an unexpected interruption or ending of therapy.

My Commitment to You
I recognise that the therapeutic relationship can be deeply meaningful and that an unexpected ending may bring feelings of sadness, uncertainty, loss or other emotions.
Although none of us can predict every circumstance in life, we can take thoughtful steps to prepare for the unexpected.
By putting these arrangements in place, my intention is to offer reassurance that your wellbeing has been considered and that, should I become unable to continue our work, you will not simply be left without communication or guidance.
Your therapeutic journey matters, and so does the way it is cared for, even when circumstances are beyond our control.
With warmth and care,
